Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of David Smith, a longstanding artist in the Dayton area and member of The Fine Art Center. He was very respected in the arts community and generally. When he spoke of people he often preceded their names with “my good friend….” And there were many ‘good friends’. You can see his obituary at:http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dayton/obituary.aspx…

We will miss David. See a small sample of his art on display at The Fine Art Center.

The 20th Annual Accessible Expressions Ohio Exhibit, is on display at The Fine Art Center from June 1st – July 30th. The Ohio – Accessible Expressions Ohio (AEO) is a statewide, juried, visual arts exhibition and tour adding to the richness of cultural diversity throughout Ohio. Three of the four award winners are at our gallery.  The program began in 1996 to challenge perceptions and raise awareness about disability, and the abilities of every citizen. AEO advances creative careers, offering Ohio artists with disabilities the experience of submitting work to an adjudicated call for art and exposure to new audiences who are potential patrons. Artwork is for sale, with proceeds going back to the artist. For more information visit www.vsao.org/aeo., So mark your calendars and stop by during the show!

Lyons Place is new apartment building in Dayton for low income and homeless veterans. The Fine Art Center (TFAC) member Lucille Carroll and her husband had visited this new facility and presented TFAC members with the idea of providing Lyons Place some artwork to hang on the new walls. She asked TFAC members for donations and collected 35 pieces of art from the members for Lyons Place. Last Thursday the art works were hung on the walls and the residents were excited to see the beautiful art in their facility. It helped make the three story facility feel a little more like home for the residents. More art will be added in the future. Thanks go to Lucille and TFAC members for helping care for our vets!!
